to give or not to give...

Fri 31 Jul 2009, 16:23        3 Comment(s)     Report Abuse
So my darling daughter is turning 4 tomorrow - and  i've had  a hectic week.  When a close friend called me earlier I found myself saying to her  "i'm not buying Eva a present".

"WHAT? how could you not?" she reproached.

Well i'm just not.
Actually for these reasons, i found myself telling her....
- She is after all, having a party
- And with a pretty-real-person-fairy
- And 20 kids from her class are coming
-  And this means 20 presents, I mean who gets 20 present on their birthday?
- And there'll be balloons, and i'm making her a cake.  ME - i haven't baked one ever for her.

And...before i could continue, Adele the parent24 Editor leaned over her desk and reminded me that if i didn't, i would need to put some money instantly into her therapy jar.  You know the one you mentally add money into every time you say or do something to your child that you know you shouldn't? (if not, you should try this immediately, it helps control your guilt).

So grabbing my last cents, (not my mental ones) i rushed off to Woolies and can happily report that she will now be able to wake up and excitedly open a present before her party starts and put on pretty daisy shoes, and a flowery bathing costume (if the sun shines) or a funky gypsy skirt if not.

Thanks for the heads-up girls - i needed it.

zig zag sleeps!

Mila is busy with Letterland and for those of you who are not familiar with it - each letter of the alphabet has a character.  A - annie apple, C - clever cat, Z for ziggy zebra....

Anyway, the other night we were reading a book and there was a pic of a little girl lying in bed with zzzz's drawn next to her  (interpeted by me <adult> as sleep).

Not so much for Mila - who sees this and exclaims -  ' ah mom, look she's having zig zag sleeps again!

Cute!

feeling like a spoilt mom

my girls out did themselves this mother's day - thanks to their teachers of course!

Eva drew a beautiful picture of me which the teacher clearly had to instruct her to do - as this is the closest a picture of hers has ever come to looking half human.

And Mila made me a beaded necklace (which i'm going to have to wear at some point), and also gave me the a pic she had drawn of me!  Apparently my arms are reaching for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Think i'm going to have to keep these... how i love my girls!

getting my daughter to share her secrets is becoming a little more difficult as she gets older.  And  i always try to get her to,  just in case there is the remote possibility of me helping them come true. Last night's one is a little difficult though...

Mom - you promise you won't tell anyone!

yes of course darling!

Well... ( she started whispering in my ear so her sister couldn't hear her) i put my special magic boxes out 2 nights ago and it hasn't worked yet.  but i've wished for fairy rainbow wings!  That are real... and BIG  so i can fly.

wow thats a big wish love...  i hope it comes true.

me too mom!

allergy testing

After months of blocked noses and antibiotics i took mila for an allergy test.  Its not the nicest sounding thing to have done, but hey i started to think being allergic to a dust mite might not be so bad!

Being 5 i left telling her about it until the morning we went - and she didn't seem to phased.  I added an incentive into the mix and then set off to the clinic.  They use both arms - write down numbers from 1 to 10 and then drop different allergens to the skin.  The scary bit is that they then take the a little blade and scratch into each drop so that it can penetrate.  After the first one i was expecting a tear or two - but my little star managed to sit through all 10 piercings and then for another 15 minutes with her arms outstretched.

The result?  She's not allergic to dogs, cats, grass, mites and the green mucous nose continues.... next stop ENT.

jealously multiplied

my daughter has never been great at saying goodbye's - but this year started off well after I went to see a kinesologist (and not to scare you all off with the oobly doobly stuff) but literally from one crying-skirt-hanging-moment to the next the tears stopped.
gone!

anyway, within weeks its started again - and to make it worse she sets off my youngest whose little face quickly wells up with an equal amount of  tears and i find myself with 2 kids clinging on to me with desperate pleas not to leave them!

anyway - the one teacher decided it could have been due to jealousy - after all i was saying goodbye to one and then sitting in the classroom with the other .  As it turns out - she was right. I've changed the way i say goodbye and the tears have once again stopped - but the jealousy is raging on.  What wasn't an obvious problem to me is now a huge problem.  They compete for my time and attention constantly-  in the car driving to school, whose hair i brush first, take out of the bath, speak to first, bounce a ball to  etc etc etc.

Is this typical of daughters? of 3 and 5 year old's? the 2 year gap?
Help please - its driving me insane!  and not something i remember feeling or doing with my sister who was 3 years older.

Nauseous

I've been feeling nauseous the entire day - and it made me realise how lucky i was when i was pregnant not to have suffered this terrible curse.  Puking and hanging over toilets is one of my worst things in the whole world -and when i find myself in this unfortunate position its usually due to drinking....and not pregnancies.  What could it be i wonder?  As i sit here i'm really hoping that my marina is still safely in place for another 1 1/2  years - and nothing slipped past....

hmmm.... will keep you all posted!
