Quick update!

So sorry that I haven’t been around, been so very busy with Mum’s treatments and Jess starting High School, it has been all go!!!

The greatest news of all is that having gone through, oral and intravenous chemo and 5 weeks of daily radiation and treatment for a frozen shoulder….8 months in total…my Mum has been declared “dormant”!!!

That means the cancer is no longer active and they will do 3 monthly checks now to keep an eye on her.

We are so very grateful to the wonderful doctors, medical staff at all levels and medical aid who have treated Mum with the utmost dignity and dedication.

Jess is thriving at High School and had a great first term report

Hope you are all well, love always.

2013…..has to be better!

Hi everyone,

Apologies to anyone who blogs here now who may not know me and the goings on in my life, but just doing a quick update for now.

Mum has done incredibly well with the chemo and other treatments over the last 6 months and there is great improvement in all affected areas.

Radiation mapping starts tomorrow and she will have 10mins of radiation every day except weekends for 5 weeks along with chemo tablets…yay….no intravenous!

Jess is amazing, new medication has brought her Insulin count down, still a way to go yet but achieving results at last.

She is loving, adoring, thriving, happy in and with High School!! She is in the Hospitality Society and bubbles over every afternoon about the goings on. There are only 22 learners in her class, how lucky is she and she seems to be popular.

Love my girl to bits, teenage moods and all.

No change on the father front, he lost his job again and yet still doesn’t see Jess anymore than he pleases. Once in 7-9 weeks don’t seem right to me!

Miss blogging and the old bloggers, can’t get into my other blog, has blocked me out!

Love always

2013!!

Happy 2013 everyone!!

I know that most people are away or just taking a break from the usual humdrum things of life, but I wanted to stop by and wish you all a very happy, healthy, blessing filled 2013.

Jess and I are doing great. Mum has had her last chemo for this 6 month session and we await the beginning of Feb now to go and do the round of tests, scans etc to see what the treatment has done so far.

This last chemo took a lot out of Mum, but she is still her optimistic self and has had no side effects apart from being very tired and losing the hair on her legs and underarms!

My brother from Jhb was down just before Christmas with his youngest boy. They stayed for 2 weeks, it was great seeing them again but a bit too much for Mum as she insisted on cooking full meals every day.

So on we go into the future, Jess starting High School on the 15th, new adventures for us both and finding out the next step in Mum’s treatment. All in all a lot to look forward to.

We are blessed and I hope you are all too!

Love always

Busy weekend

Hope everyone has had a good weekend!

We have been very busy, yesterday we went and bought Jessica’s school uniform for High School ! Eeek !!

I have to admit that she looks so good in it, she hates it of course, and even though it is brown and a sort of khaki colour it is very smart!

She has to have a blazer now and is not looking forward to the warm days and wearing that.

Jess is off to her Grade 7 farewell camp tomorrow so today has been spent packing her bag.

Because of her insulin issues, she has to take her own food too as there is unlikely to be brown everything or sugar-free anything. Bought her vegetarian boerewors and hot dogs and some vegetarian samoosas too. Have to say that they taste really good and at least I know that she will be getting enough protein.

Have started her on Antagolin, a natural supplement for Insulin Resistance, so far so good. It is supposed to stop the process of too much insulin being produced and it being absorbed into the belly fat that then produces more insulin, will let you know how it goes but have seen some body change already!

Have to go and get some supper, take care and have a great week.

Love always.

Hello!!

Good morning everyone!!! Just wanted to give you all an update on the last couple of months. Blogging obviously is not meant to be in my life at the moment, I can’t get into anything. lol

My Mum is doing unbelievably well, the oncologist calls her Miracle Woman!
Nearly at at the end of the six months now and then will have all the tests and scans done for a re-evaluation.

Jess is writing her last exams of primary school and getting excited for the end of primary school camp. It is a sort of farewell to the Grade 7’s and last get together for the children as they are going to different high schools next year.

She is enrolled in High School, we have all the lists of stuff to get and we will be starting the process of purchasing the uniform over the next week or so. It is all so expensive, but I console myself that we should have to only buy the uniform once as she is not growing at the rate she has over the last couple of years.

She is taller than me now and Miss Know-It-All, my Mum says she takes after me!! Getting a taste of what I put my Mum through. Haha.

I do pop in to catch up every now and then, but I want to take this opportunity to wish you all blessings and love over the Christmas period.

Love always

Just a quick update

Hi everyone,

Hope that you are all keeping well.

Just wanted to pop in to let you know that I am still around, well sort of. Mum has just finished her first round of chemo pills and handled them very well.

She was tired by lunch time but a nap soon fixed that. She looks really good and I took her today to have her second bone intravenous treatment.

She will have some pain for the next 48 hours until it is all settled in again. I think it is working because the constant pain that she had in her shoulder and rib on the left hand side is more or less gone!

Next week is blood tests and oncologist visit so we will no doubt have a better picture then.

Jess and I are fine. Had a tough two weeks with tests and the last one, Maths, was postponed until Tuesday so have to get through that one as well. Then it is the “Stars” show, which this year Jess is taking part in as  the speech choir that she performed with early in the term is doing their thing again.

Looks like a couple of late nights and transporting backwards and forwards, ah well such is the life of a Mum hey?!

Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Take care and have a great weekend.

Love always

Good morning,

Morning everyone,

Just popped in to let you know that I am still lurking around, keeping updated with those of us who are still here.

My Jess had her 13th Birthday on Saturday, very exciting to be a teenager at last and spoilt rotten with money and prezzies as usual.

The sperm donor couldn’t even find time to pop around to see her on the day and only phoned at 12pm!!

He did fetch her on Sunday for an hour because it was her sister’s 18th Birthday.

Nuf said!

So perhaps this is an appropriate time to leave the blogs, no longer have a baby and we are starting on a different journey.

Mum is doing really well, started on chemo tablets last week and so far no side effects. All the docs are astounded at her general well being. Her white cell count is amazing, which apparently is unheard of for the quantity of cancer in her body!

God is good!!

Blessings and love always.
