This Is My Life

Today, I very bravely suggested we make sushi. yes, make sushi. Yes, with a 3 year old. Yes, she does like the stuff!

Not bad for a very first attempt at sushi. She did mention she wasn’t going any where near the wasabi!

Friday’s are treat days in our house…. which means we review the star chart and dish out the rewards. We also bake, or eat, or devour chocolate.

It looks like Keira’s first little tooth is about to make an appearance wish us luck for this weekend, teething babies aren’t the best ….

For a while I tried to get Talia to have supper with us at the table, but found it too stressful as my MIL has serious food issues (long story). When MIL moves out on the 1st November (another long story), I’ll resume family suppers . And since Talia gets a proper cooked lunch at school, I’ve been feeding Talia when I feed squidge… but talia gets a sandwhich most nights for supper. Still I have no objection to playing with food so look at what I’ve been up to:

So, the next little while is going to be characterised by some changes in my life … some small, some major.

Looking back so far at this year and looking forward, I wonder how someone like me who has just been craving stability for a while has actually coped.

The first major change this year was mom-in-law moving in with us.

And then there was Squidge (can there be a bigger change in your life than a new baby?).

The next change will be mom-in-law moving into her own place on the 1st November.

And then there’s going to be changes work wise (more on that to follow when final decisions are made)

And then the major change of my blog name

Will life ever be stable? and why does the curse “may you live in interesting times” come to mind…..

Chatting to Luddite Lass tonight I made a comment that its a real pond here. I have a frog and a water baby (although I’m still convinced that child was an octopus in a past life).

My blog can’t be called Frog soup as its about both of them now…. and I can’t just be Frog’s mom. But I feel like I did when I changed my surname when I got married, that I’m losing a part of my identity. Hence I keep delaying this.

However, it does need to change…

So thinking of:

Name of blog: My Pond / The Pond / Lifes a Pond (that then includes all the other creatures that live in and around my pond!)

My name:  Pond Mom / Frog and Squidgy’s mom / Pond keeper (um…. suggestions?)

The question though … if I change my name, how would people know me? Cos I need to change my avatar too…. would people who occasionally read my blog be able to find me again?

Took Squidgy to swimming today, and she swam under water. Oh, so irrationally proud. Interestingly, she hasn’t lost the “amphibian reflex”, meaning she held her breath and kicked her legs. Apparently they lose it before they turn a year old. At 8 months, she still has it.

it was too quiet … i got alarmed … went to find Talia … standing on her window sill with the rope from her blinds around her neck! wow, heart failure in one moment.

Its a little bead rope, so if any pressure is put on them, they would snap – but she would get a nasty fright and a bruise I would guess. Still I freaked out a bit (but was awfully calm when I walked into her room incase she got a fright and went either backwards through window or forwards with rope around her neck.) I think I have stressed to her to never ever do that again.

The a little later she was climbing on her jungle gym and slipped through the poles of the ladder. Has bruised her front, her back and split a lip. Icepack out of fridge, toddler on lap. Think my child is testing her nine lives out today. Pity she’s not as feline as she may think she is after inhaling the catnip.

I have a bottle of catnip on my desk. Yes, my cat loves me. And for some strange reason loves lying on my desk. Talia got hold of it this afternoon and asked if she could sprinkle some on Bobi’s scratching post. Told her she could.

Go into the lounge to see my daughter emptying the whole thing on his hammock on his post (its not a small bottle). She looks at me with innocence, and for some reason catnip all over her face,  when I skreech, “eek that’s enough”, and she say’s …… “But Bobi really likes his grass”. Maybe she was inhaling to see why Bobi likes it so much?

Yes, that really is the first thing that came to mind when I think of grass. Lead a boring life, don’t I?
