Keira - our birth experience
Tue 9 Feb 2010, 21:03 0 Comment(s) Email article Report AbuseHello, all, thanks for all the comments, we're feeling very loved :)
The birth expereince wasn't quite as anticipated.... they apparently never are. We got there at 8ish-am, and got hooked up to the heart rate monitor. Next thing I know, a second gynae appears to give his opinion on Keira's heart rate. Seems it was a bit erratic and was causing concern. They were debating bringing the op forward by a few hours - i.e. rushing me in straight away instead of doing the normal prep etc. After debate, they decided that baseline was fine and all was ok to wait the few hours. Seems gynae's gut feeling of concern and bringing it forward by a few days was not unfounded.
Anyway, 11am comes and in we go, Keira was born at 11:11am. No problems there... except my blood pressure then dropped, leaving me dizzy and nauseous. Anathetist gives me something to increase blood pressure. Making heart race. Then theres prodding and pulling and more squashing and squeezing and I get major heart burn. And time continues to tick on. I have little baby Keira next to me, but I'm feeling so ill and dizzy all I want to do is lie there with my eyes closed....
Then gynae explains why its taking so long... the endometriosis (part of which is supposed to have contributed to my "infertility") was oozing blood and they were struggling to stop it bleeding. Then I hear "lets take out the uterus" and I'm like "hell, what??". They needed to get behind the uterus to the endometriosis, and apparently do so by taking out uterus from abdomen and then putting it back in again. Might have been nice to explain this one before...... and in my case, couldn't do that as the endo had glued uterus to abdomen. So more pulling and pushing before they decide to try something else...
Long story short - I was only reunited with Keira shortly before 1pm, after they had stopped bleeding and left me in recovery for a while.
Oops, little one waking up for evening feed, off I go... more tomorrow
